When I activate my Verizon Wireless phone to work globally, will I still be charged for my data plan?

I have the Droid Pro, and I know that I can't use an actual data plan (without spending a ridiculous amount of money) while in New Zealand. Will I still be charged for the data plan that I currently have while I am there?
