When joining the Navy, do they straighten curly hair to cut it to shoulder length?

I am an African American with naturally curly hair. (Think Jeri Curl.) It is not very thick and reaches approximately shoulder level when dry. I've struggled all my life to get it to where it is now. One bad perm (and incidentally, my first and only perm) wrecked major havoc. Today, it is considerably manageable: straightening at the roots and producing only to 2cm wide bun when pulled into a ponytail . So here's my question: Will the Navy straighten my hair to cut it? I've read millions of posts about how and why they cut it, but no one has described what they do with curly hair. I am truly considering joining (DCO). However, I am a bit concerned about cutting my hair. It is not, by any means, a deciding factor. Nevertheless, I would like to prepare myself as well as possible for the transition. Anyone who has attempted to grow thin, curly, African-American hair knows chopping it off can be traumatizing. Ok, I exaggerate, BUT only a little.
